Fightcamp Day 1

Early up and out from Eynsham with all the gear, and it was pouring with rain. It let up after we arrived at Balsall Common so we quickly pitched the tent. And then the sun came out in all its glory to turn the wet ground into a sauna.

There was a fantastic falconry show after lunch. Thought it was just going to be the falcons flying off and returning to the lure, but it was quite a bit more. We had the falcon swooping backwards and forwards above our heads, between the fence behind us and the handler. An explanation and exhibition of how they hunt, and how they fly between narrow gaps by timing their wing strokes. Got some great photos seeing as at one point I had it sitting about a metre away from me!

Helped out with James' class on Meyer's side sword in the afternoon. He got some very positive feedback. After that, James judged and I watched the steel sabre competition. Some good fights, some bad. Matt Easton is a demon, wouldn't like to face him anytime soon.

Quiet evening on the whole. Craft beer and burgers on the camp stove. Made everybody jealous cause we made our dinner at 19:30, and they had to wait for another hour! Some benefits to being thrifty.

Visited for a bit; its good to see Feya, Renier and the baby again. James got in some babysitting practice.
